Is it quite common for people to go on Topdeck trips alone? I really want to go on one but my mates are either skint or boring! :-(

From this forum, it seems like most people ARE lone travellers.
I definately am! I'm from Sydney, Aus and I'm going over on my own and never actually been overseas before either.
I think it's a personal choice whether you feel comfortable to do it alone, but a lot of people do do it {Smile}

I did a tour last summer and while there was a few couples and sets of friends, most of us came on our own. Going alone is a great way to meet tons of new people and since they all like to travel, you'll have lots of traveling buddies in the future! Don't let going alone stop you, it's well worth it!

I'm going alone and I' quite excited about it. Being on my own means I'll have no other option but to make tons of new friends! I've still got 6 weeks to wait and I can't think of anything else!

Lone travelling is the BEST!

I did it last year for a 28 day tour. Always a bit nerve racking at the start but by the end of tour you will have a heap of new friends.

Most people seem to be travelling on their own, myself included. I had some friends ask to come with me but i very politely asked them not to. They had all already been overseas and this is my first time and i wanted to be selfish and make it about what i want to see and do. There are sooo many benefits for solo travelling on topdeck but the best reasons are because a)youdo what YOU want, no need to follow your friends around just to keep the peace and Smileyyou're more open to meeting new people

Have a great trip!

Travelling by myself too. For the reasons Nicole said and also because I don't have any friends who are considering doing anything like this.

I would expect a fair amount of people are on the tours alone, hence a big reason for choosing the group tour method of travelling around Europe.

Europe Uncovered 3-25 June for me.

I am also a solo traveller, it's good to see that most people seem to be going alone... I'm doing European Odyssey 31st October 09 : )
