Hey Bec,
Yep, just sorted out our flights last weekend. We were originally flying Singapore Airlines between Sydney - London, and arriving on the 4th to check into the Umi. However, we've decided to leave Sydney a few days earlier, so now we're flying Etihad airlines from Sydney - Dublin and having a few nights there, then flying Aer Lingus into London on the 4th as planned.
Who are you flying with? And where are you off to afterwards? Sounds exciting!

We’re flying Qantas to London, then a whole bunch of other airlines for our other flights. We’re going to spend about a month in the UK after the tour, then head to NYC (so excited!!) Canada then Fiji on the way home for some sunshine and cocktails!

Have you guys done much travelling? This is the first big trip for me! I’m excited to find out what our tour will be like, I’ve had heaps of friends go on Contiki tours, but not Topdeck.

I’ve started the countdown already, 20 weeks to go! Eeekk better start saving =)

Wow Bec, sounds like a dream holiday! I hope you have an amazing time!
This is my first time overseas, but my boyfriend Nik spent six months in Europe a couple years ago. But he only went to about half the places we're going to on this tour, and he's looking forward to being there on my first big trip overseas!
20 weeks to go doesn't seem so far away, and I definitely need to start saving! My flights and insurance are all paid for, but I still have to pay off the rest of the trip and then really crunch down for my spending money!
I've had a few friends go on Contiki, and others on Topdeck, and I'm glad I chose Topdeck! Contiki seems to appeal for the 18 year old gap year students and from what I've heard it's all party party party and maybe see the sights if you're not too hungover. I'm all for partying, but I want to see a lot of places as well!

That's exactly the same reason we picked Topdeck over Contiki! We figure while we're there we want to see as much as possible. So hopefully this trip will be a good mix of both!

I'm trying to save for my spending money as well, it's hard to know how much you'll need.

Have you spoken to many other people going on the tour?

I know there are two other Aussie girls going on the tour, I saw it on Facebook. Don't know about anyone else! But I spoke to Topdeck about a week or two ago, and the lady said our tour was about half booked and they're expecting it to sell out! The bus holds 48, and she said there were about 20 places still left.
I'm so excited hey! We fly out on July 31st, and July doesn't seem too far away at the moment! As long as I can save up lots of spending money, I will be a very happy traveller!

Just wanted to bump this up again! The Euro Oddyssey tour also includes Czech Mate and Soho to Boho, so is anyone on those tours during 7th - 24th August?

You know how there are some tours that are only the first half, or the second half, of a bigger tour?
If you look at the Soho to Boho tour (EuroHotel), it covers the first part of the European Odyssey tour from London to Prague.
And Czech Mate covers the rest, from Prague through Berlin and Amsterdam and back to London. So when we're on the Euro Odyssey, there will be people travelling at the same time on Soho to Boho who will leave us in Prague, and then others will start in Prague as the Czech Mate tour.
I'm not sure if they'll be on the same bus as the Euro Odyssey travellers, but the dates match up exactly to the Odyssey so they'll definitely be close by!

Hi Bec! {Smile}
I'm getting so excited now! And it doesn't seem so far away now either!
My boyfriend and I both have Travelex cards, and we loaded some Euros onto them about a month ago. We bought at .65, but I just checked today and it's at .70! Hopefully it stays high (or keeps climbing) because we still need to save up and load more!
I don't know if Travelex is the best way to use money overseas, but it's definitely easy and we were told about the fees and stuff up front. And I didn't want to apply for a whole new credit card to use when I'm only gone for about four weeks!
I'm so keen for this tour haha, it's only 12 weeks til we fly out!

We're tossing up between a getting a credit card and Travelex. Apparently you can get credit cards that don't charge international use fees, but I guess the exchange rate probably isn't as good. Hmm decisions...

I bought my backpack the other day.... think I am going to have to go into training to be able to carry it! It's massive! Starting to think I should have stuck with a suitcase!

Hopefully the Volcano doesn't go off again. I had a friend who was due to fly out and join a tour, but her flight was delayed for two weeks.... eek!

I was tossing up as well, I was thinking about the ANZ credit card that I've heard some people on here mention, but in the end I decided it wasn't worth applying for a card I would only use for about a month and then have to cancel. And I liked that Travelex lets you load on the Euros so it's almost like a pre-paid credit card, whereas a lot of the actual credit cards will only allow you to load on a small amount of money because they want you to have an overdraft on the card as that's how they earn interest.
There's pros and cons for both, and you might even be better off with credit card as you're going on a giant dream holiday after the tour as well!
Can't wait to see this massive backpack haha! My best friend went overseas 2 years ago, and when I saw her backpack I thought she was going to topple backwards when she put it on! I'm sure it will be fine, and you also won't have to drag it all over Europe and cobble stoned streets!
That volcano made me quite nervous about our flights! I mean, I know we're not flying for ages, but I definitely didn't take into account the fact that natural disasters can happen any time! Definitely eeek!

I probably exaggerate about the backpack, but to me it feels huge! When I tried it on in the shop the guy shoved some weight in it and I was thinking this is ok, I can do this… then he told me he had only put about 5kg in! But you’re right, I won’t actually have to carry it very often!

I had a mini freak about the Volcano, especially when I heard a lot of travel insurance doesn’t cover natural disasters and ‘acts of god’ but I checked with ours, and luckily they do!

I just bought a money belt, and the girl in the store put some folded paper in it for me to try on, so I could get a feel of what it would feel like if I had money it in. And all I could think was, 'this looks so obvious, there's no way I can wear this under a normal top' as you could plainly see I was wearing it! I bought it anyway, but I'm not entirely sure why! I guess I won't be wearing it everyday, but if we have a big day in one place, I might wear it and just have a loose fitting shirt over the top!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and i'm doing the European Escapade from 21st of July -23rd of August I think. Just wondering if anyone else is doing the same one as me? I'm travelling alone and it would be great to meet someone going on this tour before we start!

Thank-you {Smile}

Hi Lyndal, Clare and Meaghan!

Im doing the European Odyssey Tour that is leaving on the 26th June too - and doing the Britain and Ireland Tour straight after that - yay! Im travelling by myself but that's OK - I think I'll be one of the ahem... 'older' ppl on the tours (I sound so old - 33 on Thursday! Happy Birthday to me!) and I've travelled and worked a fair bit throughout the Mid East by myself so I think I'll be OK. Hopefully?! Be nice to the old duck OK?!

See you guys very soon - woohoo!
